Stock Market ends in the red; Sensex loses 500 points
The Indian stock market ended in the red on Tuesday, with the Nifty falling below the 23,900-mark and the Sensex dropping nearly 500 points.

At close, the Sensex was up 77.05 points, or 0.1 per cent, at 75,315.04, while the Nifty ended 6.45 points, or 0.03 per cent, higher at 23,649.95. About 1,216 shares advanced, 2,891 declined, and 182 remained unchanged.

The Sensex was down by more than 1,000 points during the day but rebounded over 1,100 points to end in positive territory.

Among the sectors, the Nifty IT index continued to be the top gainer, rising around 2 per cent. Nifty Pharma was the only other sectoral gainer. Meanwhile, the Nifty Consumer Durables index was the worst performer, falling nearly 3 per cent.
Brent crude traded above $110 per barrel, while the Indian rupee closed at a record low of 96.33 against the US dollar.
Tech Mahindra, Infosys, and Bharti Airtel emerged as the top gainers, while Tata Steel, Power Grid, and NTPC were among the top losers.
On the BSE, 100 stocks hit their 52-week highs, while 80 touched their 52-week lows during intraday trade. Stocks hitting highs included Sun Pharma, Ipca Laboratories, Gland Pharma, Laurus Labs, and Solar Industries India.
Punjab National Bank, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company, Swiggy, Info Edge (India), SBI Cards and Payment Services, and United Breweries were among those hitting lows.
According to NSDL data, FPIs have sold more than Rs 2.16 lakh crore worth of Indian equities so far in 2026.
India VIX, the volatility gauge, eased from higher levels on May 18. The volatility index declined from 20.05 to 19.63.
